Plot Summary:
Capricorn Anderson as never been to a real school. He was growing up with his grandma, Rain, in their little community, Garland Farms. Rain taught him everything he knows, from being a vegan, to Tai-Chi, to all his school work. One day, when they were picking plums and having a school lesson, Rain fell out of the tree. When emerencies happen, they usually go to the veteranian that was around the corner. "Not this time Cap. We need to go to a real doctor." This is what Rain says. So Cap takes her to the hospital and gets arrested for driving at the age of 13. They unarrest him and put him in foster care. The first person to get Cap was Mrs. Donnelly. She brings him home and she introduces Cap to her daughter, Sophie. Instantly, Sophie hates Cap. She complains to her mom that he needs to go or else she will make his life miserable. Mrs. Donnelly says he is staying. Mrs. Donnelly works as the counselor at Claverge Middle School. She enroles Cap at Claverage. One his first day, he is tourtured, but he doesn't know people are doing this on purpose. Zack Powers, the most popular guy at school, shows him where his locker is and while they walk to his locker, Zack gets embarrassed because he doesn't like to be seen with this hippie boy with extremely long hair and home made sandals. So Zack is explaining to others that he is showing him where his locker is. All-the-while, Zack is planning to make Cap the next president of C Average. Every year, the popular people make the loser of the school the president. Orginally, Hugh Winkleman was going to be it, but there is a new loser in town. During their lunch, Zach tells his friends Naomi and Darryl his plan. They go along with it. When Naomi sees that Cap does when he finds a dead bird in his locker, she finds sympathy for him. Soon everyone loves Cap and Zack gets mad that he isn't the most popular person anymore.
Theme:
I think there are many themes in this book, but I believe the most important one is do not judge a book by its cover. I believe this because a lot of people judged Cap when he first got there. I mean he was a little strange, but he was a real caring person. People didn't understand that until they got to know him. An example would be Naomi. She thought that he was wierd and she didn't want anything to do with him in the beginning of the story. But when she saw that he was compassionate, she started to like him. After all the amazing things that he does by the end of the book, she falls in love with him.
